National Permaculture Day

It’s National Permaculture Day on May 1, 2011.

Apart from being a system of growing fresh food all year round, the rise of permaculture is also knitting communities together who help each other establish productive gardens and share knowledge, information and friendship.

Here at Ecofilms we’re looking forward to attending our local Permaculture Day held at Yandina Community Gardens on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Jane from Ecofilms will be manning our stall. Hope to see you there.

SBS’s Greek Garden Guru, Costa, of ’Costa’s Garden Odyssey’ fame, will be hitting the Sunshine Coast to celebrate National Permaculture Day on Sunday May 1st at the ‘award-winning’ Yandina Community Gardens. (The Gardens were the recipients of the Sunshine Coast Council’s “Glossies” Award for Edible Landscapes in 2010).

Costa will be opening the celebrations at 10.30am and will then spend the day wandering around the gardens, talking with locals and visitors. As gardeners everywhere have embraced Costa’s all-consuming passion for plants and people, permaculture members are thrilled that Costa would take the time out of his extremely busy schedule to visit us and share his infectious character and passion for the soil, embracing nature’s cycles and seasons, and nurturing our soul with gardening.

National Permaculture Day will also have wonderful presentations from the likes of Bob Cameron from RockCote, speaking on pizza cob ovens; Murray Hallam of Practical Aquaponics, talking all things aquaponics; Elisabeth Fekonia of Permaculture RealFood speaking on sub-tropical plants and Rosina Buckman sharing her passion on backyard chooks.

Everyone is welcome to come along to Yandina Community Gardens on Sunday the 1st of May for a celebration of permaculture, gardens, nature, music and good food. Gates open at 9.30am, bring the whole family to share in this special day!
