DIY Aquaponics DVD
We’re very excited about this next DVD offering from aquaponics guru Murray Hallam because it’s something that he’s been asked to do continually over the years by many people who want to build their own aquaponics system on the cheap from recyclable containers.
Murray estimates about 80% of the calls he gets are from DIY people keen to get started in Aquaponics but aren’t exactly sure how to begin.
They are after a robust quality system on a budget with components that are available anywhere in the world.
So in early 2010 Murray began to tinker with tote tanks. Also known as IBC’s, these tanks are commonly available around the world to move a variety of commercial liquids.
Murray has implemented his CHOP2 design with these tanks to enable it to be built over a weekend by the home handyman. In fact every tool used is discussed on the DVD. The advantages of CHOP2 are obvious and Murray felt that a CHOP2 system would also help eliminate problems for beginners if their tanks were not perfectly level. The DIY Aquaponics DVD will show Murray actually selecting 3 IBC tanks and you will watch him dismantle the wire cage from the plastic tank as he wields various tools from a skill-saw to an angle grinder to cut and rebuild these IBC’s into an effective fish and vegetable production system.

“The DVDs will not only explain how to build your aquaponics system, but how to look after it from start to finish.”
We’ve decided to also incorporate our other proposed DVD title Aquaponics: The First 12 Months together with DIY Aquaponics. Together the DVDs will not only explain how to build your aquaponics system, but how to look after it from start to finish.
You will see Murray release tiny fingerlings into the system and watch them grow over the year until its time to harvest the fish.
As Murray says “There’s no trick photography in this DVD.”
We actually spent closer to two years working on this one DVD title documenting its progress and going back to explain some little known detail. So the two titles on the one DVD are excellent value.
We know occasionally people get stuck with siphons and how to build them. That’s why with each DVD sold, web details will be given to where to download detailed plans that accompany the DVD. So you can watch the DVD at your leisure and then build your aquaponics system once you have sourced all the components.
Now if you can’t find certain types of valves or need a particular part, don’t worry as Murray can supply you with every component if needed. You can order the parts from his website.
Murray Hallam has spent a long time testing and implementing CHOP2 to make sure it will work with ease for you.
In fact he even built a glass autosiphon for the film so you can see exactly what happens to the water as it gets recycled in your new system.
And then there’s his famous strawberry towers that are also implemented in this CHOP2 system.
This DVD just gets better and better as we like to keep adding lots of innovative features that you will be knocked out watching, learning and building.
DIY Aquaponics will be available from Murray’s website and nominated dealers in the USA in February 2011.
The duration will be around the 2 hour mark making it one of the most extensive Aquaponics DVDs that we’ve released so far.
We always like to exceed and build on the quality of our past efforts.
DIY Aquaponics is sure to be a great DVD to add to your collection.
Built by people who love doing Aquaponics.
Looking forward to it.
Saw the 1st video and it was very good.
I have 2 IBC tanks sitting here, ready to go, so this DVD is prophetic.
I just hope I cut them correctly. 😛
Hi Wewa, You will have no problems cutting out the tanks as the steps are explained very well.
Great Idea we want to start in February with our system here in old europe: austria. Please send us the DVD asap
when can I purchase it!
Hi Carol, DIY Aquaponics is completed and ready to be printed. We are just waiting for Murray Hallam to complete his drawings of the plans that will also ship with the DVD as a separate pdf file. We estimate late February for the DVD to finally begin shipping. Thank you for your patience.
Wow another great video and book from Murray!!!! cant wait how can I get one now???? LOL,,, really any update on release and projected cost???
WOW I have looked for 20 minutes for a purchase link and never found one. Amazing.
Hi Mark, we don’t sell DVDs off this site. You can purchase it from Murray Hallam’s website here:
OR if you are in the United States you can pre order it from The Aquaponics Source.
Please note that you will not receive this DVD until next month as it is currently being printed.
Do you have anyone in UK selling the DVD?
No Jon, Can you recommend a retailer you’d like to see the DVD’s sold through in the UK – let us know or better still ask them why they are not stocking them? That would be very helpful. Cheers Frank
Hi
Why not make them available through iTunes? Then you’d have global distribution without the hassle of shipping / printing / stocking physical products? 🙂
e
Thanks Edward. We’ll look into it.
This DVD has had a terrific response. Here’s an email from Murray Hallam I got a few weeks back which I thought we’d share…
Is your DVD due in March 2011 available and IF so, what is the cost for US customers?
Will the DVD describe how large a system to install for providing food for over 1 million population?
What can you tell me about the diseases (i.e. Furunculosis, Columnaris, and Bacterial gill disease) that would be prevalent in using Kokanee Salmon in the ~ 70 degree F water?
Thanks
Craig, You may be confusing fish disease problems with conventional aquaculture practises in intensive fish systems. Aquaponics has been well studied by biologists who surprisingly report that fish diseases as you report are negligible because Aquaponics mimics natural processes that inhibit common fish diseases. Your other question – No the DVD will not describe how to feed the planet. It will however show you how you could feed your own family. A good place to start off with perhaps?
You can buy the DVD in the USA directly from http://theaquaponicsource.com/
I don’t see any easy links on this page to buy this item. There are some external links, I think, that i haven’t clicked on. The pictures are just links to larger versions of the pictures.
Just to give you a feedback, I’ve been surfing your site for a few minutes( a life time in the internet age) and can not find the info I’m looking for, specially on how to buy a DVD, such as this one.
Hi Saeid, I am sorry but at the moment we don’t sell any DVD off our site. We produce, edit and wholesale the DVDs to other retailers. The links that point to other sites are all reputable and will supply you with what you wish to purchase. However you make a good point and we will add appropriate information for people to direct them easier to the required destination. I hope the minutes spent here were not too painful in the Internet age :0
Does this DVD have CC or subtitles?
Thanks.
Hello Admin,
I’m an international buyer. I bought this DVD and 2 others and I just got my order number via E-mail. It’s been almost 20 days since the payment and I have sent you e-mails (jane@ecofilms.com.au and frank@ecofilms.com.au) and haven’t got any response.
My Order Number: 5R6751212P171033H
Could you please e-mail me about my order status?
Thanks
