Just a quick update on whats happening with the upcoming DIY Aquaponics DVD. The DVD is complete and ready to go. We’ve been waiting for Murray Hallam to complete his accompanying pdf file that will be included with the disk and today we got his first draft and boy is it looking good. We were expecting a plan with measurements of the various layouts of the IBC container, but Murray has submitted almost a detailed book, full of photos, graphics and an extensive parts list with a photo attached of every fitting and tool needed to complete the job. Awesome work Murray.

The DVD features two titles on the one disk. DIY AQUAPONICS and AQUAPONICS THE FIRST 12 MONTHS.

Part one is an intensive demonstration by Murray Hallam into the theory of CHOP 2 Aquaponics. Your requirement is to get yourself 3 x IBC containers or tote tanks as they are known in some parts of the USA.

This is the fastest and easiest and cheapest way to get started in Aquaponics. IBC tanks of around 1000 litres capacity will give you stability and reliability to grow copious amount of fish and vegetables.

Murray explains the benefits and takes you through the tools you will need to complete the job. He then shows you all the steps you need to cut and separate the tank from the cage and takes you through all the stages in cutting out and preparing the grow beds and fish tank ready to be recommissioned as a fish and food production system.

We reshot a number of scenes to make sure every step is explained in detail. Murray will give you an overview of the auto-siphons. He even built a glass siphon so you will see how it works in real time.

The main plumbing fittings are explained it detail so you will understand what to use and why and where the fail points are and how to avoid them.

Once you have watched the DVD a couple of times you will be ready to build your own Aquaponics system. Print out the accompanying PDF file and get busy in the workshop. Murray will explain all the fittings you will need to source. If you have a problem getting the right taps or plumbing materials – its a snap as you can order the whole assembly from him.

Part two is called AQUAPONICS THE FIRST 12 MONTHS and shows a beginning system from start to finish, being constructed from an empty courtyard to a thriving food production system. We finish on Murray harvesting the same little fish that he put into the system.

There’s no trick photography here.” says Murray Hallam at the start of the film. All the problems are shown as the system matures. In the end you will be amazed at what a terrific thing Aquaponics really is. Its just that simple to grow food once you get the basics properly built. Murray Hallam will take you through it all. Its like doing an intensive training course in fish and vegetable production.

This DVD was two years in the making and is about two hours long.

The other good news if you are reading this from North America is that this DVD will be encoded in NTSC format which means it will play perfectly in your country. In the past all our DVDs are PAL based. NTSC is not a problem if you live in Australia or other countries as the PAL DVD players have always supported NTSC for many years now. The other good news is that this DVD title will be available through Sylvia Bernstein’s Aquaponics Source website so delivery if you live in the USA will be very quick.

Murray and Sylvia will be taking advance pre-orders shortly. The DVD will retail for about the same price as all our other DVDs. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about DIY Aquaponics whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. We loved making this DVD and are honoured to work with some great people happy to share their knowledge and skills along the way.
