Intro to Permaculture goes Spanish
Geoff Lawton’s Introduction to Permaculture Design DVD has gone into a second edition, but this time thanks to a number of keen Spanish speaking translators out there we’ve now added a Spanish subtitles to this DVD.
The hardest part of editing subtitles into something like this is getting people to co-ordinate their transcriptions. Jane Gapinski at Eco Films sat down and made the English subtitles first with timecode embedded in the text document which meant translators fluent in both English and Spanish were able to replace the English text in their preferred language and email the new document back to Jane.
This way all the timecode was preserved allowing the Spanish text to easily cut in on cue with the action.
This process made the whole task a lot easier to embed text into the new DVD. Many thanks to the many helpers who helped spread Permaculture around the globe. PRI and Eco Films would like to thank
El Efecto Borde from Argentina, Enrique J. Triñane from Uruguay, Gianna Bonis Profumo from Spain and Robert Parks from the USA.
Its a great example of team co-operation amongst the international permaculture community.

Hi there!
I am going to translate Geoff Lawton’s Introduction to Permaculture Design into Chinese, and am glad to learn from this post that Jane Gapinski at Eco Films has already made the English subtitles with timecode embedded in the text document. May I have this English subtitles document so that I can replace the English text with Chinese like your Spanish translators did before? Thank you very much in advance.
Happy 2012,
Lucy
Hi Lucy, thank you for that offer. Chinese translators are hard to find. We will email you the english version shortly.
Many thanks! Looking forward to your email. All the best!
Hello and a Happy New Year!
I am a student at the MA programme Translator/Editor at the Sofia university, Bulgaria.
As part of my studies I have to translate subtitles for a movie. Luckily I get to choose the movie myself and my choice is “Establishing a Food Forest”.
My search for subtitles lead me to this page and I am very happy to see that one of the permaculture movies does have English subs and they have been translated to Spanish and are soon going to be available in Chinese as well! I’d like to add Bulgarian on the list!
My initial choice is “Establishing a Food Forest” but in case there are no subtitles for it, “Introduction to Permaculture Design” is also suitable for my goals – executing the task for university and more importantly – contributing to spreading the principles of permaculture.
I was introduced to permaculture by some of Geoff Lawton’s students here in Bulgaria and it would bring me content if I can help them in making the ideas of sustainable life and sustainable agriculture in particular more popular.
Please let me know if I can have the English subtitles document for either movie.
Thank you for your time!
Kind regards,
Galena
